The countdown is on to November 24th
In February of 2021, we asked the question, can an event in Canada be carbon neutral? What would it take and how would we do it? We challenged 2 teams to create events with a neutral carbon impact and they did it!
Now we are on a quest to make low carbon events the norm, not the exception.
We are asking the bright young minds coming into our industry to challenge themselves to create a sustainable event case study based on an event scenario.
Using creativity and planning skills, teams of event management, hospitality and tourism students will showcase their ideas to make events memorable, engaging and sustainable.
The challenge is to create a detailed event proposal including an estimated carbon calculation. The event scenario can be found at the bottom of this page as a downloadable pdf
Round 1 presentations will be recorded and submitted by October 15th for judging.
Your team will be scheduled to meet with the judges to answer questions in a private video call. Team presentations will be judged by a panel of event industry and business professionals and have live Q&A.
The top teams will be determined by Oct 23rd to move to the final round of presentations on November 24
ALL presentations will be recognized and feedback will be given to all teams.
The Scoring criteria can be found at the bottom of this page as a downloadable pdf

There will be a $5 registration fee per person which will be applied to tree planting and reforestation efforts in Canada after this summer of brutal forest fires!
Ideal team size is 3 to 5 people, but it's your choice how big (or small) your team is!
The top teams will be asked to present on November 24th at the TSEF Summit and an audience poll on this day will determine the overall winner.
No prior event experience is required.
We get it, you have great ideas and you should be rewarded for thinking them. For this moonshot, we are going to ask you to share freely - because our future is at stake - and so we call upon your generosity and goodwill to share your great ideas on sustainable events with the event world so we can make a better world. We will acknowledge your team and will do our best to credit any ideas shared.
The Moonshot is open to all event management students enrolled in a post secondary institution for the 2021/2022 school year or has graduated in the past year.
Yes! The top winner will be judged by public poll, so be sure to attend and vote. It will be a great learning opportunity and will feature highlights of all the submissions, as we will be recognizing ALL teams. This is also an opportunity to network, share ideas and work with others to make the events industry more sustainable.
The top placing teams will be given access and networking opportunities with industry leaders, sustainable event practitioners and industry events.
Events need to become sustainable, fast. We need all hands on deck and that includes new, fresh perspectives from people excited to start in the events industry.
